Through volunteer projects, assistance with programs or special events and with fundraising activities, members of the Friends are valuable contributors to the quality of the county parks.

Friends of Bendix Woods and Spicer Lake member Jim Rahilly was recognized as a certificate winner for the 2005 Michiana 55 Plus Volunteer Award. This award is sponsored by Teachers Credit Union, WSBT AM960, WBND-TV57 & the South Bend Tribune. Jim was nominated for his dedication for volunteering for the St. Joseph County Parks, South Bend-Elkhart Audubon Society and other community organizations.
