Scoop in the pond to discover who lives there, hear a hilarious frog chorus and create a frog life cycle out of a paper plate. Registration is required by April 29. | Come and explore a pre-1840s encampment of fur traders, buckskinners, potters and blacksmiths. Events include: skillet tossing, candle making, knife and tomahawk throwing, teepee race and more. | Bring your boomerang or use one of ours. Learn to fly the first man-made device to demonstrate controlled flight. Not recommended for children under ten. | Make and take home a four-piece set of luncheon plates accented with real pressed flowers! Participants will also enjoy a hike through the field collecting edible flowers. Learn various techniques for photographing nature. The focus of this program is on composition and picture-taking skills, not specific camera operation. After a brief talk, we will hike to the south side of the park to photograph nature and wildlife. Bring your own camera. Registration and payment are required by May 7. Have you ever wondered if you could survive in the wild? This is your chance to find out! Explore the “wild” side of the park while learning fun, useful wildlife survival skills. Skills learned will include building shelters, basic map and compass skills, and wild edible plant information. Registration and payment are required by May 8. See scientists in action at BioBlitz as they study the plants and animals which call St. Patrick’s County Park home. Participants can also join park staff pond scooping or insect sweeping to contribute data to the count. For more information call 574/277-4828.
Calling ALL volunteers! Join park staff to help maintain the gardens at Bendix Woods and St. Patrick’s County Parks. Bring gloves and gardening tools. Volunteers do not have to garden at both sites, but are welcome to.
